CAU’s 35th Biennial Conference of the Home Science Association of India Inaugurated
Umiam 17th January, 2024: Central Agricultural University, Imphal is hosting the 35th Biennial Conference of the Home Science Association of India (HSAI Tura Chapter) on the theme "Multidisciplinary Approach in Home and Community Science for Sustainable Development" from January 17th to 19th, 2024. Inauguration of the conference was done by Smt. Agatha K. Sangama Hon’ble Member of Parliament, West Garo Hills, Meghalaya as the Chief Guest and Shri Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Hon’ble Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha, Assam, Govt. of India, Prof. Manoshi Roy Choudhary Co- Chancellor, Techno India University, Kolkata and Dr. Neelam Grewal, Vice President (North), HSAI as the Guest of Honour at College of Post–Graduate Studies In Agricultural Sciences, Umiam, Ri – Bhoi District, Meghalaya. The conference will feature technical sessions with 35 lead speakers from across the country. Around 200 delegates have already registered for the event. The program includes approximately 120 oral presentations and 80 poster presentations. The conference aims to provide a platform for discussions and deliberations on themes such as Inclusive Food and Nutrition Security, Sustainable Resource Management, Human Well-being and Holistic Development, Towards Sustainable Textiles, and Creative Extension Approaches. The event also feature an award ceremony for paper presentations, recognizing achievements in categories like Young Scientist Award, Mid-Career Award, and Senior Scientist Award. Dr Jyoti V. Vastrad ,Dean, CCS, Tura gave the welcome address highlighting the presence of participants of 24 state in the conference. Dr Neelam Grewal in her remarks mentioned the need to include Home Science/ Community Science to include in Competitive exam syllabus. Dr Manoshi Roy Chodhury, Co – Chancellor, Techno India University in her remarks talked about how Artificial intelligence can be incorporated into Home Science and about including Home Science course in Techno Indian University. Shri Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Hon’ble Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha, Assam, Govt of India spoke about gender equality, gender bias and he also expressed how the research conducted should be put into practical to maximise the utility. He promised to help in conveying the findings of the Home sciences to the central government and state government so further goals can be achieved. Book of Abstract and HSAI Publications were released during the inaugural ceremony. The Chief Guest Agatha K. Sangma addressed the dignitarires, expressed how the women have direct impact in making a better planet and how the conference deals with sustainable community. In her speech, she remembered the contribution of late P.A. Sangma, Former MP in establishing the College of Community Science, Tura, Meghalaya. Presidential remark was given by Dr Anupam Mishra, Vice Chancellor, CAU, Imphal, highlighted the importance of Home science, in many fields including entrepreneurship and health related knowledge and how it will impact the generations to come. Dr. D, Thakura, Dean CPGS- AS, Umiam proposed the vote of thanks extending his gratitude to all the dignitaries and congregation present.
As a constituent college of CAU (Imphal), the College of Fisheries, CAU (Imphal), Lembucherra, Tripura India along with its staff and students virtually participated in the inaugural programme and Prof. A. B. Patel, Dean of the college acknowledged the support and guidance of Dr. Anupam Mishra, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor CAU (Imphal) and president of the function for the success of the event.
